Rejected and thrown from Olympus by his mother Hera, when he was just a baby, Hephaistos was saved by a sea goddess and raised in a volcano, where he perfected his skills as a blacksmith and an inventor. Both of these required him to master the use of fire and by the time that he was grown, no one could wield a hammer better than this legendary craftsman.
But talented as he was, Hephaistos was all heart. He did not object to Prometheus sharing the god’s precious fire with humans. This made him a target for the most brutal of the immortals
Deeply saddened and ashamed that he was forced to take part in the chaining of Prometheus, Hephaistos later helped to set the fire-bringer free and in the end, this benevolent blacksmith became one of the most beloved and respected of all of the immortals.
It’s good to see one of the good guys win.
Look for Hephaistos in our upcoming short film #PrometheusBound
